The ongoing winter storm was just a rumor at the Plymouth Ice Center Wednesday night, as a packed house watched the Eden Prairie Eagles duel the top-ranked team in the state, taking Wayzata to the end of regulation and beyond. It looked as though Eden Prairie Eagles just might upend the state’s top-ranked team at Plymouth Arena Wednesday night. A packed house of spectators braved the winter storm to watch the Eagles go toe-to-toe with Wayzata, as the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Two defensive standouts for the Eden Prairie Eagles football team, which reached the state semifinals in November, both signed national letters of intent contracts on Wednesday, determining their respective college football futures. Eagles senior defensive end Chiddi Obiazor and senior defensive back Devin Jordan inked the dotted lines, with Obiazor headed to Kansas State and Jordan attending the Air Force Academy. Amid a cloud of uncertainty, the Eden Prairie boys basketball team defeated Waconia 102-67 on their home court Tuesday night, capturing their first victory since Eagles head coach David Flom was suspended from coaching the team on Dec. 8. The school district suspended Flom pending an investigation into a complaint about his use of inappropriate language during a classroom session with the team on Dec. 7. The Eden Prairie boys basketball team put up 50 first-half points against Waconia on their home court Tuesday night. The Eagles balanced that with 52 points in the second half, cruising to a 102-67 win over the Wildcats. Sophomore Max Lorenson led the Eagles with 23 points in a game where a number of players saw action off the bench. After shutting out Elk River 6-0 Thursday night at the Edina Holiday Classic, the Eden Prairie Eagles had a repeat performance, holding Grand Rapids scoreless with a 2-0 victory in tourney play at Braemar Arena Friday night. In what could be billed as the “Clash of the Titans,” No. 1 ranked St. Michael-Albertville traveled to the Eden Prairie High School gymnasium to face the fourth-ranked Eagles in a Class 3A dual meet on Thursday night.
