An Eden Prairie man has died after being involved in an accident in Chanhassen on Monday that caused his vehicle to veer off the road and into a pond, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Kenneth John Blumberg, 71, was driving a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan west on Highway 212 to County Road 101 at about 11:20 a.m. when he ran a red light and collided with a 2019 Honda CR-V driven by a 52-year-old Norwood Young America woman who was traveling north on County Road 101.
The impact of the collision sent Blumberg’s vehicle into a holding pond, where it submerged in the water.
Blumberg was initially taken to the University of Minnesota Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but his status on the State Patrol incident report was updated to “fatal,” indicating that he had passed away.
“We are now investigating this crash yesterday as a fatal crash,” said Lt. Gordon Shank of the State Patrol on Tuesday.
The driver of the other vehicle involved did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
The road condition was reported as dry at the time of the accident.
