The Wings of the North (WOTN) annual spring pancake breakfast and the start of ticket sales for its annual airplane sweepstakes are Saturday, May 6, from 8 to 11 a.m. in the WOTN hangar at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie.
Enter the airport through Gate H on the northwest corner of the field, by the city ballfield complex. The address is 14857 Pioneer Trail.
Pancake breakfast tickets are available at the door for $8 per person; admission for kids 6-12 is $5; kids 5 and under are admitted free. A family of two adults and two kids is $20.
WOTN is a nonprofit aviation history organization and one of Eden Prairie’s older nonprofit groups, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It produces the annual AirExpo each July at Flying Cloud Airport. AirExpo 2023 will be July 22-23.
Weather permitting, airplanes will be displayed at the breakfast, including a 1948 Beechcraft Bonanza that is being given away through a sweepstakes fundraiser. Sweepstakes tickets are $50 each. The drawing will be at the fall breakfast on Sept. 9. (An earlier article incorrectly inferred that the drawing was May 6.) If you win and don’t need an airplane, the alternate grand prize is $35,000 cash.
Proceeds from WOTN activities help with the group’s plan to reopen their successful, Minnesota-themed aviation museum, which closed in 2021 when they lost the lease for their space due to the expansion of their landlord’s aviation business. Donations for the museum project are also appreciated.
More information about WOTN and its activities is available at www.wotn.org.
