PG Narayanan announced his candidacy on Monday for another four-year term on the Eden Prairie City Council. His current term, which began in 2020, will end on Dec. 31.

    PG Narayanan

Narayanan, who is the first Asian American and currently the only Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) member of the council, has served since his appointment to a vacant seat in 2018 and subsequent election in 2020.

“I am honored to announce my reelection campaign for the Eden Prairie City Council,” Narayanan said in a press release. “Having served our community, I am determined to utilize my experience to further improve our city. Together, we can ensure Eden Prairie remains inclusive, innovative, and responsive to the needs of all residents.”

During his time on the council, Narayanan stated that he has introduced new ideas and focused on inclusivity. He has worked on initiatives to increase community engagement and ensure fair distribution of resources. According to the press release, these efforts have helped address local issues and enhance the community’s quality of life.

Narayanan’s platform includes a focus on sustainable development, community safety, and transparent governance. He said he supports maintaining a well-funded police force to ensure public safety and prioritizes high standards for the city’s parks and lakes.

“We encourage active community involvement and collaboration to tackle current issues and seize opportunities for growth,” Narayanan said. “Join us in supporting a prosperous future for Eden Prairie.”

A resident of Eden Prairie since 1999, Narayanan is the founder and CEO of SmiForce, an IT analytics software company based in Eden Prairie. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston.

Narayanan served as chair of the city’s Human Rights and Diversity Commission for five years. He has also been involved with the Eden Prairie Community Foundation, including a term as board chair, and previously led the India Association of Minnesota as its president.
