Lisa Toomey, currently serving her first term on the Eden Prairie City Council, announced Monday her candidacy for reelection to another four-year term on Monday. Her current term, which began in 2020, will end on Dec. 31.

    Lisa Toomey

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve the residents of Eden Prairie,” Toomey said in a media release. “Over the last four years, the council has made considerable progress in addressing our community’s needs. I am excited to build on this progress.”

Toomey said she has backed a range of initiatives during her tenure, including efforts to boost public safety, improve parks and trails, and support economic development. She has also been involved in long-term planning for the Southwest Light Rail Transit.

She cited her role in passing an inclusionary housing ordinance, adopting sustainable building standards, establishing an affordable housing trust, and securing federal funding for a mobile command center for the Eden Prairie Police Department.

Toomey currently represents the city on the I-494 Corridor Commission, the Municipal Legislative Commission, and the Southwest Corridor Management Committee. She previously served on the city’s Planning Commission.

Since moving to Eden Prairie with her husband in 2001, Toomey has been actively involved in the community. She currently serves as president of the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention and Criminal Apprehension Fund and as treasurer of The PROP Shop, a nonprofit resale store.

Additionally, she has been involved with several local organizations, including the Eden Prairie Lioness Lions Club, Let’s Go Fishing, the Eden Prairie Optimist Club, the Community Education Advisory Council, the Eden Prairie Lions Foundation, the Catholic Charities Respite Program, and the Virginia Piper Breast Center. She also previously served as the executive director of Meals on Wheels of Eden Prairie.

“I really enjoy connecting with our residents and encourage anyone to reach out with any questions or concerns,” Toomey said. “I hope to continue my contributions to help keep Eden Prairie a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.”

The 2024 general election will feature two at-large seats on the council, with terms starting on Jan. 1, 2025, and ending on Dec. 31, 2028. Filing for these positions opens on Tuesday, July 30, and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Toomey’s fellow incumbent, PG Narayanan, also announced his intention to seek reelection.
