    Snow emergency declared by city

EPLN Staff ReportsBy EPLN Staff ReportsJanuary 19, 20231 Min Read

Eden Prairie has declared a snow emergency effective Jan. 19-20.

According to the city’s officials, the snow emergency will be activated as soon as the snow accumulation reaches 2 inches.

Residents of the city are advised not to park on city streets until noon on Friday, Jan. 20. This will allow the crews to maintain safe and passable roadways and perform a full curb-to-curb cleanup that will begin at 3 a.m. on Friday.

The city has also issued some important reminders for residents to follow during the snow emergency. These include placing trash containers behind the curb line, not in the street, removing basketball hoops, landscaping, and any other objects from the street and right-of-way (which extends approximately 10 to 15 feet beyond the curb). The city is not responsible for damage to items placed in these areas without permission.

Residents are also encouraged to help by shoveling around fire hydrants and mailboxes and clearing nearby sidewalks. It is illegal to place snow from your property onto the public roadway. Additionally, residents are advised to make sure their mailboxes are installed according to USPS guidelines and are sturdy enough to withstand the force of snow rolling off the plow.
