Fred Chung-man Ho, 74, of Eden Prairie died Jan. 7, 2023 after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Fred came to the U.S. in 1970 to attend the University of Hawaii, receiving a B.S. in Biology. He proceeded to Iowa State University where he earned a Master’s & Doctorate in Statistics and Industrial Engineering. He met Martha Cox at ISU and they have been happily married since 1983. After teaching statistics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, he joined GE Nuclear/Keane Consulting in San Jose, CA before settling in Eden Prairie in 1995.
Fred was a devoted husband and father, preparing the most wonderful meals for family and friends and pursuing artistic interests – painting, woodworking, playing and building guitars for his wife and each of his children. Exploring the globe with his family, he was an avid traveler with the conviction that meeting people from different walks of life inspires greater peace and understanding.
In the Twin Cities, he rekindled his dedication to TaiChi as a student and instructor in the Tilopa TaiChi program for many years. A proud U.S. citizen, it was Fred’s great honor to serve our country in his own way by creating and teaching a TaiChi program as a volunteer with the Minneapolis Veterans Administration. As an instructor, he was known for his warmth, generosity, and sense of humor as he embraced a global community of TaiChi practitioners.
Fred is survived by loving wife Martha Cox Ho, M.D., children Matthew Wendell Ho, Kristin Eileen Ho (Drew Wilson), and Marc Luin Ho, siblings Michael, Yuk Ling, Jadie (Werner), Margaret, Agnes, Fabian (Liza), Alice (John), Irene and siblings-in-law Lucinda, Bob (Julie), and Jim (Karen).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tse Fung Kwan and Ho Tack, sister Joan Ip, and nephew Chi-Wai Ip.
Fred found and created joy everywhere he went and in everything he did. He will be dearly missed by all who crossed his path. His actions and words throughout his life echo his parting message: “Life is beautiful.”
Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the First Unitarian Society, 900 Mt. Curve Ave., Minneapolis
