The Eden Prairie boys volleyball team ended its season recently after a strong showing at the state tournament. But the sport’s future at Eden Prairie High School and statewide is only beginning after boys volleyball was sanctioned as an official high school sport by the Minnesota State High School League in May.

Boys volleyball becomes a sanctioned sport in the 2024-25 season.

The team began its state tournament showing with a hard-fought five-set match against Como Park. After losing the first two sets (25-27, 21-25), the Eagles won the final three sets (25-15, 25-13, 15-9) to move on. Adam Berger had 25 kills and Buven Padmanaban added 27 assists.

Prior Lake defeated the Eagles in the second match in another five-set battle (25-20, 26-28, 18-25, 26-24, 12-15). Aadi Awasthi had 14 kills, Tavian Nseuman, 12 kills, and Pranav Gumma had five blocks.

The Eagles’ season ended with a straight-set loss to Wayzata (24-26, 20-25, 22-25). Adam Berger had 13 kills and G. Padmanaban had 23 digs.

“Prior Lake went on to be the eventual state champs,” head coach Steph Chapek said. “We had them on match point in game 4, but couldn’t keep it. Overall though, it was a fun experience for our team. The returners can’t wait to play next year.”

The Eden Prairie Boys Volleyball Association will conduct three, four-day summer camps beginning July 17.

Separate camps will be held for 7th to 10th graders who are beginners with some experience (6 to 7:30 p.m.) and for 10th to 12th graders with medium to advanced experience (7:30 to 9 p.m.) on July 17-20, July 23-27, and July 31-Aug. 3. The camps will take place in the high school’s small gym. The cost is $55 per session, and space is limited.
