PROP calls on people to open their hearts in July

Staff ReportsBy Staff ReportsJune 27, 2023Updated:June 27, 20232 Mins Read

PROP Food is calling on the generosity of Eden Prairie residents as it launches its “Open Your Heart” campaign in July. The initiative aims to address the pressing issue of food and financial insecurity faced by neighbors in need.

According to a press release, many individuals contribute to PROP during July, recognizing the heightened demand for client services during the summer months.

To amplify the impact of these donations, Hunger Solutions has pledged to match a portion of all gifts received by PROP, thanks to a grant awarded by Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless.

The increased demand for critical food support has prompted the addition of an extra afternoon shift at the food shelf on Mondays, starting in the fall.

“Over the past few months, the number of people needing critical food support from PROP has increased beyond our scheduled food visit capacity,” the press release stated. “Afternoon appointments are in the highest demand, especially by people who are employed and striving to achieve financial stability.”

The expense for adding an additional shift is about $25,000 per year in food purchase costs. Additional staff members and volunteers are needed to add more service hours.

People can contribute to PROP Food’s efforts by making online donations (one-time or recurring) in July at propfood.org, or by mailing checks to PROP Food and Services, located at 14700 Martin Drive, Eden Prairie, MN, 55344.

PROP Food and Services relies on the contributions of local businesses, civic organizations, churches, schools, and individuals to fulfill its mission. For further information on volunteering or partnering with PROP Food and Services, call 952-937-9120 or visit the website.
