The City of Eden Prairie is taking action as a historic winter storm approaches.

It has declared a snow emergency effective from Tuesday, Feb. 21, to Friday, Feb. 24, as soon as snow accumulation reaches 2 inches, with parking on city streets prohibited until noon on Friday.

The City of Eden Prairie has declared a snow emergency from Tuesday, Feb. 21, to Feb. 24, effective as soon as snow accumulation reaches 2 inches. During this time, parking on city streets is prohibited until noon on Friday.

According to a city posting, snowplowing will occur throughout Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with a full curb-to-curb cleanup scheduled for Friday morning when snow is expected to subside.

Residents are reminded to follow snow removal guidelines, including placing trash containers behind the curb line, removing objects from the street and right-of-way, and shoveling around fire hydrants and mailboxes. It is also important to install mailboxes according to USPS guidelines and to ensure they are sturdy enough to withstand snowplow force.

As the city prepares for the snow emergency, the National Weather Service Twin Cities has issued a warning for a historic winter storm that will bring significant snow accumulations from Tuesday through Thursday, with blizzard conditions likely.

The storm will come in two rounds of snow with a lighter “lull” in between.

The Twin Cities is currently experiencing the first round of the storm, which began on Tuesday and will last until Wednesday morning. The second round is anticipated to hit on Wednesday and persist through Thursday, accompanied by powerful winds that pose a danger to travel from late Wednesday until Thursday.
