Eden Prairie’s newest water storage tank, a 4 million gallon behemoth north of Highway 212 and east of Eden Prairie Road, has “crushed” the competition to win Top Tank of the Year.
The contest, sponsored by Preload, a leader in the design and construction of prestressed concrete tanks, pitted 20 water tanks from across the country in its contest which EPLN reported on recently.
“Thanks for casting your votes to help our tank take top honors!” Eden Prairie City Manager Rick Getschow wrote in his July 1 Friday Report.
To honor the city’s first-place finish, Preload will donate $3,000 to Water for People, a Denver-based non-profit organization that works to provide high-quality drinking water and sanitation across the globe.
In many parts of the world, women and children spend more than four hours walking for water each day, and more than 840,000 people die each year from diseases contracted from unsafe water, according to Water for People.
Water for People has helped bring clean drinking water to 4.67 million people in its 30 years of existence, according to its website.
In addition, Water Buffalos, a group of Arizona motorcycle-riding water professionals that supports Water for People and other water-related organizations, will wear a special patch featuring Eden Prairie throughout the year.
