Coordinated globally by the EarthDay organization, Earth Day is an annual event which began on April 22, 1970.

Among others who were pushing for environmental action during the time, United States Sensor Gaylord Nelson from Clear Lake Wisconsin (about 80 to the northeast of Eden Prairie) was instrumental in founding Earth Day.

The City of Eden Prairie sponsors Sustainable Eden Prairie, an ongoing education and sustainable practices effort to protect the environment and natural resources.

Adopt a Storm Drain Sign Up Today

There are hundreds of “orphan” storm drains in Eden Prairie.

The Adopt a Storm Drain is a volunteer program to create healthier waterways and healthier communities. There is no cost to the the program which is administered by Hamline University of St. Paul, Minnesota. Volunteers can “name” their storm drain and report on their cleaning activities and the condition of the drain.

Volunteers monitor their storm drains and ensure it is clear of debris. This results in cleaner waterways and healthier communities. Storm drains flow directly to local lakes, rivers, and wetlands, acting as a conduit for trash and organic pollutants. Adopt a Drain asks residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris to reduce water pollution.
