    Eden Prairie statistics provide backdrop to EP school district finances

    Annual financial reports, whether for a business, schools, or even your own household, are not the finest ingredients for the making of a great Netflix series or even a decent documentary – much less for leisure reading.

    Columns and rows of numbers and percentages, references to fiscal years, funding streams and anticipated expenditures can be mind numbing.

    But if you look a bit deeper, they can provide some fascinating information.

    EPLN took a closer look at the 2020 Eden Prairie School District’s Annual Financial Report and found several to consider:

    $2.65 – the cost of a school lunch at Eden Prairie High School in 2011

    $3.35 – what the same lunch cost in 2020

    959,409 – the number of school lunches served in 2011

    556,852 – the number of lunches served in 2019 (the last full school year; 556,852 were served in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 school year)

    220,201 – the number of free meals served in 2011

    211,279 – the number of free meals served in 2019

    Per pupil cost

    $13,647 – cost per pupil in 2011
