This Express Concert features music filled with emotional drama — in one moment light-hearted, playful, and brilliant and the next brooding, mysterious, or melancholic, an apt description of both Jean Sibelius’ Suite mignonne for two flutes and strings and his well-known Valse triste. When Pekka Kuusisto led Louis Farrenc’s Third Symphony a few years ago, the orchestra fell in love with it and has been eager to tackle this bold and exciting masterwork in its signature unconducted fashion.
