Shreya R. Dixit Memorial Foundation
16th Raksha 5K Run/Walk & Vigil for Distraction-free Driving
At the memorial, following the run/walk, Mayor Ron Case will join the community remembering precious lives lost to distracted driving.
A crashed car and other displays by the Minnesota State Patrol will help raise awareness of the problem of distracted driving.
Shreya Foundation’s youth interns will showcase a prototype of an advanced version of the AI based EyeDA device to detect activities indicative of distracted driving.
The program will conclude with the tying of a ceremonial protection wrist band called Rakhi rooted in the Indian festival of Raksha Bhandhan; a sister ties the Rakhi protection band on her brother’s wrist. All participants at the Raksha event receive hand crafted Rakhi bands from India that they tie to those around them after reciting a 31-word pledge to drive distraction free.
