Kouba Gallery: In the Presence Of Water
Join us for a captivating Open House at Kouba Gallery featuring the mesmerizing photography of Mike Ruth in our exhibition, “In the Presence of Water”. This unique collection is part of a larger project in collaboration between artists Catherine Lange and Mike Ruth, who together explored the beauty of Northern Wisconsin and Michigan in 2021 and 2022.
Through the lens of Mike Ruth, you’ll experience the dynamic and ever-changing nature of water in stunning time-lapse and long-exposure images. The places captured include iconic locations such as Amnicon Falls, Copper Falls, Lost Creek Falls, Morgan Falls, St. Peter’s Dome, and more. These photographs are not just snapshots but are artistic expressions that reveal the movement, mystery, and power of water. Water is constantly in motion and therefore is always changing. Like a Zen saying: “You can’t step in the same river twice.”
Water, as the giver of life and a source of tranquility, is at the heart of this exhibition. Mike Ruth has long been fascinated with the movement of objects—natural and man-made—and this work beautifully captures the fluidity and constant change of water. From delicate ribbons of movement along lake shores to the dynamic flow of rivers, this collection invites viewers to see familiar places through a new, artistic lens.
The entire show has previously been exhibited in Washburn, WI, and at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Minnesota, and also appears in the book “Same Location, Multiple Perspectives.”
