History Highlights: Black Regulars “Buffalo Soldiers” at Fort Snelling

Join us at Historic Fort Snelling’s newly reopened visitor center to hear one of our staff talk about the 25th Infantry “Buffalo Soldiers” at Fort Snelling during the 1880s.

The Twin Cities was one of the first major metropolitan areas they were stationed near with already thriving African American communities, and many eventually put down roots here.

Also learn about their bicycle experiment soon after they left Fort Snelling, riding almost 2000 miles from Fort Missoula to St. Louis in just over 40 days, and a plan to ride north back to Fort Snelling.

See other displays including a cavalry saddle exhibit, shop in the museum store, and stop in the grab-n-go where snacks and sandwiches are available for purchase.
