Pre-K Creative Play by the Art Center – Saturdays

Socialize and learn new skills with fun art projects exploring different ways to be creative together. Classes explore outdoors as weather permits, so dress for a mess and the weather. If weather prevents us from being outside, we play in the spacious Staring Building Lake View Room. Register child(ren) only. Adults must be present and active with their child(ren) during the entire session. Glass classes must have one adult per one child due to properties of the medium. Registration required.

April 23, Dino Discovery
Play paleontologist and excavate dinosaur “artifacts” to use with air dry clay to produce unique fossils. Participants then experiment with the artifacts as a painting tool to make one-of-a-kind works exploring color and texture. Finish with a watercolor tape resist bone painting to celebrate all things dino.

May 7, Mom’s Day Self-Care Gifts
Celebrate mom by creating handmade items that give her the gift of self-care and relaxation. Kids and their adults use a variety of materials and cool processes to make something special. This is a great class to make surprise gifts for Mother’s Day, attend with mom for a fun experience together or to spend time with a special person. Possible projects include fizzy bath bombs, candle holders, chore coupons, lavender scented eye pillow, decorated candles, tic-tac-toe game and more.

May 21, Spring Surprises
Welcome the arrival of spring in all its color and beauty. Projects promise to be full of color and fun, but participants have to wait to attend to find out what they are making! Plus, each young artist decides the direction of their artwork for the day. Think tie dye, watch it grow, hidden drawings and more.

June 11, Celebrate Dad, Make a Gift
Celebrate Father’s Day with a unique gift! Participants work with their adult to paint underglaze in lots of fun colors on a pre-made tile and small dish. Make it a surprise or attend with dad to have a special experience together. Each participant is provided with one flat tile and shallow dish which will be fired with a clear, food-safe glaze on top of their underglaze colored masterpiece. Completed projects may be picked up during open studio hours on Saturday, June 18 just in time to be wrapped for dad’s special day.

June 25, Collage-O-Rama
Get your glue on in this super fun collage adventure! Participants learn about different styles of layering and collage materials such as paper, paint, stickers, wallpaper and markers. Possible projects include sticker patterns, circle and dot collage, silly self-portraits and cut-paper collage.

July 9, Fake Food Fun
Step into the exciting world of cooking and baking through art. Participants explore all things yum with possible projects such as fantastical sweets sculptures, mixed media main courses and more.

July 23, Under the Sea
Jump in and explore amazing creatures large and small that live underwater. Participants experiment with a variety of art materials to build their fine motor skills. Possible projects include clothes pin muncher shark, jellyfish salt painting, painted puffer fish, octopus windsock and more.

Aug. 13, Make Your Own Musical Instrument
Learn about the power and meaning behind music from around the world. Participants use everyday materials and art supplies to make instruments of their own. Inspiration starts with the cajon from Peru, didgeridoo from Australia and a shekere from Africa.

Aug. 27, Flying Animals
How do animals fly? Learn about flight and use a variety of art materials to make animals that can fly or move.
