Eden Prairie Optimist Club 5K Walk/Run

WE’RE BAAACCK! For the 2nd consecutive year, the Eden Prairie Optimist Club 5K Walk/Run (All Ages!) is set Saturday, June 28 at 9AM sharp!

As Optimists, we see the glass as always at least half full, and our race is absolutely full of fun, family and community, in keeping with our motto: “Friend of Youth.” We strongly support the youth in our community and we know that our young people are much more than “OK.” That’s where the name came from, those Optimist Kids! ABOUT THE RUN:
The Optimist Club OK 5K run/walk is presented by the Eden Prairie Optimist Club. The timed race has been part of the city of Eden Prairie’s Fourth of July Hometown celebration in past years, but now has its own date! Major sponsors of the 5k include the Eden Prairie Optimist Club and the city of Eden Prairie.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE?
This year’s donations will be used toward a program that sends Elementary School Safety Patrol members in Eden Prairie Schools to Valleyfair as a reward at the end of the year.

Optimist Club fundraiser proceeds go to the community programs of the Optimist Club, including the Annual Floyd Berntsen Optimist Club Hooked On Fishing competition, Valleyfair trip for School Patrol, Eden Prairie Center Halloween Party, Optimist International Essay and Oratorical scholarship contests, Minnesota Sings Vocal Competition, Youth Appreciation Award and other programs. The group also supports PROP – People Reaching Out to People, Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund, Sleep in Heavenly Peace – MN, Twin Cities South, Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) Solar Boat Regatta and more.

EVENT DETAILS & SCHEDULE:
The event includes packet pick-up from 7:30 to 8:50 AM, Saturday, June 28, with the race starting at 9:00 AM sharp! The course is an out-and-back around Purgatory Creek Park in Eden Prairie, starting near the pavilion. Parking is available in the nearby lot and at Southwest Station.

LIVE MUSIC:
Live Music: 8:00-10:00 AM by Sadie Maguire, an award-winning “Eden Prairie Sings” competition vocalist! Sadie Maguire is a talented 16-year-old singer, songwriter, pianist, and actor based in Minneapolis. Originally from New York, she’s been performing in the Twin Cities for over a decade. Sadie attends the Performing Institute of Minnesota – PIM Arts High School and has already achieved recognition for her songwriting, reaching the semi-finals of the international Song of the Year competition.

POST RACE CELEBRATION:
(Tentative) Head to Hackamore Brewing Company (family friendly/all ages, 16 taps, live music, golf simulator!) for a social from 12-2PM. Up to $200 in FREE drink tokens will be given away at the 5K!

AGE CATEGORIES:
Medals are awarded to the top male and female finishers in the following age groups: 14 and younger, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and older. Stick around after the race for door prizes and the medal presentation!
