All ears: Lions Club’s Corn Feed serves up summer tradition

This Saturday, Aug. 3, Round Lake Park will transform into a corn lover’s paradise as the Eden Prairie Lions Club hosts its annual Corn Feed.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the air will be filled with the aroma of steaming sweet corn, luring locals to this time-honored tradition where 4,000 ears await the crowd.

Gregg Fletcher, the event chair who has been orchestrating this buttery affair for the past 20 years, knows it’s no small feat.

“It’s a hard day, and the temperature is gonna be up there a little bit,” he said, noting the forecasted warm weather. “It’s a lot compacted in one day, but we love it and people love it. You see a lot of the same people every year. Some of them have told me, ‘Oh, we have family come to visit, and part of the day they plan around coming to the Corn Feed.’ So that’s kind of nice.”

For $12, adults can indulge in all-you-can-eat corn, along with a choice of a sloppy joe or hot dog, and chips. Children under 12 can enjoy the same for $8. If you’re just in it for the corn, unlimited servings are $10 for adults and $7 for kids. A single sloppy joe or hot dog is $3, and a dozen uncooked ears in a bag are available for $12. Beverages, including beer, will be sold separately.

The corn, freshly picked from Untiedt’s Vegetable Farms in Waverly, Minnesota, will be steamed, shucked, and slathered in butter – ready for eager attendees.

This year marks nearly 60 years of the Corn Feed, a cornerstone of the Lions Club’s fundraising efforts alongside events like Schooner Days, the Pancake Breakfast, and the recently revived golf tournament.

Proceeds from the event support a wide array of community initiatives, including PROP Food Shelf, The PROP Shop Eden Prairie, Minnesota Lions Gift of Sight Eye Bank, Minnesota Lions Hearing Foundation, Can Do Canines, True Friends Camp Eden Wood, and scholarships for local high school seniors.
