Helping Paws, an assistance dog training organization that moved its headquarters from Hopkins to Eden Prairie this spring, is celebrating the grand opening of the new facility with a Paws in Motion event on Sunday, May 5.
The event will take place at the new location, 6569 City West Parkway in Eden Prairie, and include a fundraising 5K walk/roll/run that starts at the Helping Paws facility and offers options of both an ADA accessible short course and a longer course, routed through nearby Bryant Lake Park.
Additionally, Eden Prairie Mayor Ron Case is scheduled to present a proclamation declaring May 5 as Helping Paws Day. Tours of the new facility will be available, as well as family activities, food trucks, and a chance to meet Helping Paws assistance dogs.
The move to Eden Prairie provided a much larger training facility for the organization, which has been operating out of the Twin Cities for more than 30 years.
“By expanding our space, we will be able to place more dogs with more people who need them without losing sight of our mission,” says Helping Paws executive director Alyssa Golob. “This is an exciting moment for Helping Paws, and we are thrilled to continue our journey in Eden Prairie.”
The nonprofit organization trains and places service dogs with individuals who have physical disabilities and veterans and first responders with PTSD. Helping Paws also places facility dogs with professionals in courthouses, fire stations, and schools. All dogs are placed at little to no cost.
The Paws in Motion event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, with 5K check-in beginning at 8 a.m.
