Amid this spring’s cookie season, Girl Scout Luccia Jiovanazzo sold 150 boxes of cookies earmarked for donation to first responders in Eden Prairie and Burnsville.

Luccia’s mom, Jennifer Jiovanazzo, explained, “After everything happened with the situation at Burnsville, she decided to just do her own one-week donation drive for the Boxes for the Brave.”

Boxes for the Brave was the name Luccia, a 10-year-old fifth grader who is a Junior Girl Scout in Eden Prairie’s Troop 18452, gave her personal donation drive for cookies for first responders, which she ran in addition to regular cookie sales and her troop’s previously selected charitable donations.

“I wanted to do something special for them,” Luccia explained. “I wanted to do it so that I would make their days brighter and to put a smile on their faces so they could be happy.”

Luccia, whose personal favorite Girl Scout cookies are Caramel deLites, selected a mixture of this year’s nine cookie flavors for the 30 boxes each she delivered earlier this month to two fire departments and the police department in Burnsville following the deaths of two police officers and a paramedic from that suburb. She also delivered 30 boxes to the headquarters of the Eden Prairie police and fire departments.

She promoted her donations both on her mom’s Facebook page and in person.

“They could buy cookies and donate, or just donate, or just buy cookies. But most people bought and donated,” Luccia said.

She has sold over 600 boxes of cookies total so far this cookie season, which lasts until March 24. “I’m really happy and grateful that all the people did that to support the cause,” Luccia said.

“We’re just very appreciate that we can do something, in just such a small way, but hopefully with everyone kind of reeling from such a tragedy, hopefully this will help bring some happines and joy, spread a little love,” Jennifer said.
