Still dreaming of a white Christmas

Eden Prairie Road Santa, reindeer and snowmen inflatables seem hopeful

Although various meteorologists predict a few wet snow flurries on Friday, they anticipate the snow will melt on Saturday. The large holiday inflatables on Eden Prairie Road, just a few seconds north of Duck Lake Trail, it seems, are not giving up on snow. They were as cheerily hopeful today as they were on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Last week, they even posed for a few EPLN snapshots while waving at passing cars. The tin soldier was on guard duty and did not crack a smile; same today.

The display balloons are tethered in an Adret Court backyard that overlooks the north/south artery. Among them are gingerbread kids and a miniature Santa in a sleigh pulled by only three reindeer (not pictured).

So, as the afternoon temperature hovers around 48 degrees with little prospect for a respectable mantel of snow next week, hum a few bars to that Irving Berlin seasonal chestnut, “White Christmas.”

“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know …”

    You know the words.

With no snow to brighten our monochromatic patch of Minnesota during the darkest days of the year, a little humming can echo warm family memories. And those jolly balloons on Eden Prairie Road can tickle one to smile.
