The public has a chance to weigh in on the City of Eden Prairie’s 2024 budget and property tax levy on Tuesday, Dec. 5, as well as on the proposed construction of a Crew Carwash in the southeast corner of Highway 5 and County Road 4.

Public hearings on those topics are on the Eden Prairie City Council’s agenda when it meets at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road.

The council has already given preliminary approval to a 2024 budget of $60.3 million and a total property tax levy of $47.1 million. The tax levy is proposed to increase 5.6 percent from 2023. City staff estimate that the city’s portion of property taxes would increase $54 for a median-value Eden Prairie home of $536,400.

A cadet program designed to help build a more diverse police force by helping pay for law-enforcement schooling is among new initiatives in the proposed 2024 budget.

As for the Crew Carwash proposal, the plan to redevelop the former Burger King property has been endorsed by the Eden Prairie Planning Commission, which advises the council.

Indiana-based Crew Carwash is proposing two brick and glass buildings at that site: one for washing cars and the other for cleaning car interiors. They currently have four locations in the Twin Cities.
