    Round Lake Beach temporarily closed

Round Lake Beach in Eden Prairie has been temporarily closed due to unsafe levels of bacteria found during routine testing, the city reported Tuesday.

As a result, the city has closed the lake for swimming until further testing determines the water is safe.

Hennepin County Public Health conducts sampling and analysis of 31 public beaches in the county from Memorial Day to Labor Day to ensure safe water quality for swimming. The department also has the authority to close contaminated beaches.

On Monday, June 5, testing was conducted on the water of Round Lake, revealing “unacceptable” test results. It has been closed at the end of last summer due to unsafe levels of bacteria in the water.

The lake’s status will be posted on the city’s website.

Round Lake Beach is set to officially open for the season on Sunday, June 18, with lifeguards on duty from noon to 6 p.m. daily. Additionally, swimming at Riley Lake Beach will open on Saturday, June 17, with lifeguards on duty from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Until then, swimming at the two city-run beaches is at your own risk.

Swimming at Bryant Lake Regional Park in Eden Prairie, which is operated by the Three Rivers Park District, is available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Labor Day. That beach is unguarded.
