Fire damages EP house on Friday morning

Stuart SudakBy Stuart SudakAugust 12, 20221 Min Read
A fire damaged an Eden Prairie house on Friday morning. This was one of three photos of the incident that the Eden Prairie Fire Department posted on Twitter.

A fire on Friday morning caused significant damage to a home in the 6600 block of Barberry Lane in Eden Prairie.

Fire Chief Scott Gerber said the call came in at 7:23 a.m. of smoke coming from the rambler-style house. When Eden Prairie firefighters arrived, the house’s first floor was fully engulfed by fire. They put the fire out with help from the Minnetonka, Hopkins, Chanhassen, and Excelsior fire departments.

No residents or firefighters were hurt in the fire. The fire chief noted that “somebody” was home at the time of the fire, alerting authorities.

Gerber said Friday afternoon that the cause of the blaze is still undetermined, but he did note there was lightning in the area at the time.

“I know our investigators are working closely to try to get to an answer,” Gerber said. “There was definitely lightning in the area, but from an operational standpoint, our initial call was that we had smoke coming from the home.”

The fire left the house unhabitable. There is fire and smoke damage on the first floor, and probably water damage in the basement, he said.
