ReAct Eden Prairie helps explain solar potential

EPLN Staff ReportsBy EPLN Staff ReportsApril 23, 2022Updated:April 23, 20222 Mins Read

In conjunction with Earth Day, the city is launching ReACT Eden Prairie, an online tool residents can use to understand their rooftop solar options.

The new tool was developed as part of the Sustainable Eden Prairie initiative, an ongoing effort focused on education and implementing sustainable practices to protect natural resources.

An interactive map showcases the solar power potential of every structure in Eden Prairie, including single-family homes and businesses. The site also helps the city recognize sustainability efforts and outlines other actions residents can take to help meet the communitywide climate goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Students can apply to serve on city commissions

Eden Prairie is now accepting applications through Friday, May 27, for those who want to participate in the Students on Commissions Program for the 2022-2023 school year.

The program is open to any high school junior or senior living in Eden Prairie.

According to the city manager’s April 22 report, the Students on Commissions Program helps youth contribute to their community while gaining valuable insight into municipal government.

Student commission member terms begin in September and end in May, with an expected time commitment of one evening meeting per month.

Students can apply to serve on one of the following commissions: Flying Cloud Airport; Heritage Preservation; Human Rights and Diversity; Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources; and Sustainability.
