Joy Bodin will become interim president of Hennepin Technical College on June 1.

Joy Bodin will become the interim Hennepin Technical College president on June 1.

According to a news release, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees named Bodin to that role on April 20. She will replace former Hennepin Tech President Merrill Irving Jr., who resigned in February. According to the Star Tribune, Irving stepped down amid allegations of harassment and discrimination.

A search for a permanent president will begin in the fall.

Bodin is currently the vice president of academic and student affairs at Central Lakes College, with campuses in Brainerd and Staples. It is one of 37 Minnesota State colleges and universities. She has been in that role since 2017. Her responsibilities include providing leadership and vision in all areas of academic affairs, student affairs, information technology, and institutional effectiveness.

“Joy Bodin comes with strong knowledge of Hennepin Technical College as well as the leadership skills and expertise the college needs now,” said Devinder Malhotra, chancellor of Minnesota State. “She is a strategic and transparent leader with a commitment to career and technical education. Her ability to build relationships and consensus positions her well to navigate the college through this transition.”

Hennepin Technical College is the largest stand-alone technical college in Minnesota. It has campuses in Eden Prairie and Brooklyn Park.
