A woman and two of her children were injured in a hit-and-run at the corner of Chestnut Drive and Mitchell Road, leaving one child with critical injuries, Eden Prairie Police Investigative Sgt. Bryan Dean said Friday at a news conference.
Dean said the 27-year-old mother of four was pushing two of her children in a wagon while the other two walked with her. The mother and the two children in the wagon were struck by a white vehicle and taken to Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis for treatment.
He said the other two children were not injured. According to a police report, the family lives not far from the intersection where the crash occurred.
“The children on foot were not physically injured, but are understandably traumatized by the incident,” Dean said.
Police identified the mother as Spogmai Kamawal. EPLN is not naming the injured children because they are minors.
Both injured children are younger than 4, Dean said.
The crash occurred about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Dean said. Police said the vehicle was white, but its make and model are unknown.
Police recovered plastic from the driver’s side of the car and are using it to help identify the vehicle, Dean said. The department is asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
The mother and one child were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released from Hennepin Healthcare, Dean said. The other child remained hospitalized in critical condition as of Friday afternoon, according to the hospital.
Investigators from the Eden Prairie police, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol are working together on the case.
Dean said a reward will be offered through the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund for any tip leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The amount of money has yet to be determined.
Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 952-949-6200, Dean said. Police also posted an online link for people to share photos or videos that may help identify the suspect.
“This type of reckless and tragic act will not go unanswered,” Dean said. “We are committed to finding the individual responsible and holding them fully accountable.”
