An Eden Prairie woman is accused of stealing a vehicle and leading police on a high-speed chase on Highway 212.
Shelbi Clare Anderson, 32, was charged Thursday, July 31, in Hennepin County District Court with two felonies – theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle – and one misdemeanor count of violating a domestic abuse no contact order. She remains in custody on $20,000 bail and is scheduled for an omnibus hearing Aug. 26.
According to the criminal complaint, Eden Prairie police responded Tuesday, July 29, to a report that Anderson was following a man in violation of a court order. Officers said they located her driving a maroon Mazda SUV with no rear license plate. When they attempted to stop her, she allegedly sped away, reaching about 90 mph, driving on the wrong side of the road, passing cars on the shoulder and running stop signs.
The chase ended when Anderson struck a curb and drove onto the median of Highway 212, police said. A license plate was found on the backseat floor. Officers later determined the vehicle had been reported stolen three days earlier.
Court records show Anderson has several other pending criminal cases in multiple counties, including drug-related and driving offenses.
