Jack Hillesheim has been named head coach of the Eden Prairie High School alpine ski team, the school’s Student Activities Office announced July 3.

Hillesheim, who served as the program’s assistant coach during the 2024-25 season, succeeds Nate Springer, who recently stepped down from the role. The appointment marks a return to leadership for Hillesheim, who brings years of racing and coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and international levels.
“We’re excited to welcome Coach Hillesheim back, this time in a head coaching role!” said Assistant Athletic Director Marissa Brandt in a statement. “He’s been a great inspiration to our student-athletes, and we can’t wait to see what this alpine ski season brings under his leadership. His passion for the sport and commitment to athlete growth make him a perfect fit to lead our program forward.”
Hillesheim grew up in Eagan and began skiing at age 3 during family visits to Montana. He started racing in seventh grade with the Buck Hill Ski Team and went on to compete at the USSA, FIS, NorAm and collegiate levels. As a senior, he was named a Top-10 skier to watch and later raced for Gustavus Adolphus College.
He began his coaching career as an assistant for the Academy of Holy Angels while in college, a position he held for four years. After graduation, he moved to Germany to work as a ski instructor for the U.S. Department of Defense, earning multiple certifications from the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and expanding his ability to teach a range of skill levels.
The Eden Prairie Alpine Ski program, a Minnesota State High School League sport, includes both boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams.
“I am extremely excited and honored to have been chosen as the new head coach,” Hillesheim said. “It is a great opportunity to give back to the community and pass on my love of the sport. I am looking forward to getting to work!”
According to the activities office, Hillesheim’s coaching emphasizes technique, guided discovery and personal growth. He said he enjoys working with student-athletes and watching their development throughout the season.
