Edina woman charged after high-speed DWI stop in Eden Prairie

Stuart SudakBy Stuart SudakJune 22, 20252 Mins Read

An Edina woman is facing nine charges, including two gross misdemeanors for third-degree DWI, after she was allegedly caught speeding on Highway 212 in Eden Prairie while intoxicated.

Madelena Amelia Perez, 20, was arrested shortly after 2:30 a.m. on June 14 when Eden Prairie police said they observed her SUV racing another vehicle near Shady Oak Road at speeds approaching 80 mph.

According to the criminal complaint, Perez admitted to speeding but denied racing. Officers noted signs of intoxication, and a preliminary breath test measured her blood alcohol content at 0.13. A subsequent test at the station showed a reading of 0.14 – well above the legal limit of 0.08 in Minnesota.

Police also discovered open containers of alcohol, as well as cannabis products, and determined that Perez’s driver’s license required an ignition interlock device – which her vehicle lacked. She has a prior license revocation from a 2023 DWI offense, court records state.

Perez was booked into the Hennepin County jail and released on June 16 after posting a $12,000 bond. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance July 2 at the Hennepin County District Court’s Ridgedale location in Minnetonka.

In addition to the two gross misdemeanor DWI counts, Perez faces seven misdemeanor charges, including underage drinking and driving, possession of an open cannabis package, and driving without the required ignition interlock.

All charges were filed by the Eden Prairie City Attorney’s Office.
