Eden Prairie Local News (EPLN) is celebrating its fifth anniversary today with the launch of a fundraising campaign aimed at strengthening its future as a community-run newsroom.
The nonprofit digital news organization, founded Sept. 16, 2020, after the closure of the Eden Prairie News, launched its “Give Me 5!” campaign Monday, Sept. 15. The effort seeks 500 donors in five days, each contributing in $5 increments, to mark the milestone.
Publisher and CEO Mark H. Weber, named to the job earlier this month, said the campaign is a way to honor the community support that has sustained EPLN since its beginning.
“For the last five years, Eden Prairie Local News has covered what matters most to EP residents,” Weber said. “We are so happy to celebrate this anniversary with all of EP and look forward to continuing to serve the community we all love.”
The anniversary comes during a period of growth for the organization. EPLN recently added two reporters: general assignment reporter Rachel Hoppe and part-time education reporter Maddie Robinson. The newsroom also introduced The Prairie Pulse, a weekly newsletter focused on local events.
EPLN covers city government, schools, elections and other community news with a mix of staff and volunteers. Leaders say the campaign will help fund core operations and lay the groundwork for the next five years.
Donations can be made online (click here) in increments of $5 – such as $5, $25, $50 or $100 – or any amount ending in 5.
EPLN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom funded by grants and community contributions.
