Eden Prairie residents donated 9,520 pounds of food and $670 in cash to PROP Food Shelf during this year’s Night to Unite, held Tuesday across 158 neighborhoods, according to a Thursday post on the Eden Prairie Police Department blog.
The police department encouraged block parties to collect food for the local nonprofit. Parties that donated more than 200 pounds were entered into a drawing for an ice cream social hosted by police and fire personnel.
The Bent Creek Woods neighborhood won this year’s drawing with 316 pounds of food.
Eden Prairie Local News reported Wednesday that Mayor Ron Case, Council Member PG Narayanan and police Lt. Jen Ficcadenti visited several neighborhood gatherings, answering residents’ questions and joining in the festivities.
Night to Unite, held annually in communities across the country on the first Tuesday of August, is intended to bring neighbors together and promote public safety. Eden Prairie police, firefighters and city officials visited local celebrations throughout the evening.
