A 38-year-old Blaine man has been charged with breaking into an Eden Prairie office building in December 2023 and stealing computer equipment, according to a Hennepin County criminal complaint filed July 2.
Thuan Minh Mai is charged with one felony count of third-degree burglary and one gross misdemeanor count of theft, accused of entering a business in the 6500 block of Flying Cloud Drive without permission and taking a computer and monitor valued at more than $500.
Surveillance video captured on the night of Dec. 20, 2023, showed a man later identified as Mai entering the building by cutting a hole in the wall shortly after 11 p.m., the complaint states. The footage then showed him leaving with the computer equipment.
Eden Prairie police reported that the man touched several items inside the business, including the cord from the stolen monitor, which officers later swabbed for DNA.
In January 2025, forensic testing by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office matched DNA from the scene to a profile in CODIS, a national DNA database. Officers said the DNA matched Mai, and they later confirmed the resemblance between Mai’s booking photo and the person seen in the surveillance footage.
Police located Mai in April and obtained a DNA sample from him for comparison, the complaint states. On May 7, the sheriff’s office confirmed that Mai’s DNA matched the profile found on the computer cord swab.
Mai is currently not in custody. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 24 in Hennepin County District Court.
