Drivers in Eden Prairie can expect lane, ramp and weekend closures this summer as the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins repairs on Highway 212 and Highway 5 between Eden Prairie Road and Interstate 494.

Starting Thursday, June 12, crews will begin erosion control work, resulting in intermittent lane closures in both directions on both highways. The work includes repairing concrete, repaving shoulders, and updating existing guardrails. According to MnDOT, the concrete is more than 20 years old and in need of repairs.
By late June or early July, either eastbound or westbound lanes of Highway 212 and Highway 5 will be reduced to a single lane through the project area. Crews will work on one direction at a time, keeping one lane open.
Beginning at 2 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, crews will begin resurfacing the road shoulders, starting in the westbound lanes at I-494, which will lead to additional lane closures throughout the project area.
The most significant disruptions will come during two full weekend closures of Highway 5 between Eden Prairie Road and the Highway 212/5 split:
- 9 p.m. Friday, July 18, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 21
- 9 p.m. Friday, July 25, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 28
During those closures, traffic will be detoured via Highway 212 and Highway 41.
Additional impacts include a ramp closure beginning Monday, June 16, when the ramp from Mitchell Road to westbound Highway 5 will close through early July.
Homes and businesses will remain accessible during construction. Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes. MnDOT urges motorists to be attentive, drive cautiously, and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
All dates are weather dependent and subject to change, MnDOT noted.
The project is scheduled for completion in September 2025.
More information and project maps are available on MnDOT’s project webpage.
