Eden Prairie man pleads guilty in gross misdemeanor sexual conduct case

Stuart SudakBy Stuart SudakJune 4, 20252 Mins Read

An Eden Prairie man has pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from a 2024 incident involving a teenage girl, according to Hennepin County District Court records.

Xavier Thomas Koskinen, 20, entered his plea on May 21 before Judge Mark Kappelhoff. The charge — nonconsensual sexual contact — relates to a Sept. 6, 2024, incident that occurred during a high school football game in Edina. Koskinen was 19 at the time, court records show.

The plea comes months after a criminal complaint was filed in November 2024 alleging that Koskinen contacted the girl via Snapchat and misrepresented his age. The complaint stated that Koskinen met the girl at the game and led her and a friend to a nearby playground, where the alleged incident occurred.

According to the complaint, the girl told police she informed Koskinen she was a 14-year-old freshman, and he claimed to be a 16-year-old junior. During the encounter, Koskinen allegedly grabbed the girl’s buttocks, kissed her, and tried to prevent her from standing up. A friend who was present corroborated some of the victim’s account, according to the filing.

Court documents state that Koskinen initially denied knowing the girl but later admitted to communicating with her online. He told police he believed she was 16 or 17 years old.

As part of the plea agreement, Koskinen is scheduled to be sentenced July 16. He is expected to receive 30 days in the Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility and two years of probation. He remains out of custody on a $20,000 bond.

Judge Kappelhoff has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and a sex offender evaluation ahead of sentencing. A forensic navigator was also appointed to assist in the process.

A jury trial is still listed for Aug. 11 on the court calendar, though it is likely to be canceled following the guilty plea.
