Walter Jerome “Jerry” Dustrud, 88, of Minneapolis, formerly of Eden Prairie, passed away May 9. He was preceded in death by his wife, Heather Toy Dustrud, and his parents, Walter and Mabel Dustrud.

Jerry graduated in 1954 from Minneapolis South High School and in 1959 from the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. After serving in the Army National Guard, he embarked on a 40-year career as a project manager, designing computer systems for businesses.
He demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to community service from a very young age. In recent years, he served on two homeowner association boards, the Elliot Park Neighborhood board, the Triangle Park board, and also on the South High scholarship and reunion committees.
He enjoyed tennis, golf, music, sailing, reading, bridge and coffee. He loved spending time at his family cabin and Florida condo, as well as traveling to many states and countries.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Gayle Dustrud; son, David Dustrud (Stephanine “Sam”); daughter, Kristen Schneider (Doug); son, Jon Dustrud (Kristina); stepson, Jesse Heinzen (Sara); grandchildren, Ana Rodgers, Wade Rodgers, Augusta Berling (Greg), Erica Schneider, Ian Schneider, Emma Heinzen, Olivia Dustrud and Ella Dustrud; great-granddaughters, Stella and Audrey; sister, Barbara Ronning (Gary); brother, Charles Dustrud; and many relatives and friends. Jerry will be remembered by all for his charm and wit.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church, 333 S. 12th St., Minneapolis. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Memorials are preferred to Lutheran Campus Ministry Endowment, Grace Hospice or a group of your choice that you shared with Jerry.
The family is especially grateful for the care Jerry received from Grace Hospice.
