A Shakopee woman has been charged with felony property damage after allegedly throwing a can of pineapples at a vehicle in a store parking lot, causing more than $5,000 in damage, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.

Marisa Lauren Estes, 35, is charged with first-degree criminal damage to property, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred Feb. 22 outside Scheels at 8301 Flying Cloud Drive in Eden Prairie. The victim told police he had parked in a space designated for first responders and returned to find a large scratch on the right side of his vehicle. A witness said she saw a woman, later identified as Estes, yelling and visibly upset while trying to enter her own vehicle parked nearby. The woman allegedly threw an object at the victim’s vehicle and began yelling at the witness for watching.

The witness provided the suspect’s license plate number to police, who traced it to Estes. According to the complaint, officers contacted Estes by phone and she admitted she “snapped” because the vehicle was parked too close to hers. She told police she had a temper tantrum and threw a can of pineapples at the vehicle.

The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,327.56, the complaint states.

Estes has been summoned to appear for a first court appearance on April 29 at Hennepin County District Court’s downtown Minneapolis location.

An attorney listed for Estes returned a call and left a message but did not provide comment. A follow-up request was not returned as of Thursday.
