The Eden Prairie girls hockey team defeated Chaska/Chanhassen 4-2 in Friday’s Section 2AA quarterfinal at Eden Prairie Community Center, securing a spot in the section semifinals Tuesday night.

Eagles eighth-grade forward Ava Moe scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 5:46 remaining, just nine seconds after Chaska/Chanhassen tied the game. Eagles eighth-grade forward Campbell Elvin added an empty-net goal to secure the victory for the third-seeded Eagles (11-15-0).

Eagles senior captain and forward Addy Mitchell opened the scoring at 8:02 of the first period, assisted by Moe and Elvin, but Chaska/Chanhassen (9-17-0) evened the score at 1-1 with a power-play goal at 10:09.

Moe put Eden Prairie back in front at 12:45 of the second period, assisted by Mitchell and Elvin.

Eagles junior goaltender Rylee Lorton made 21 saves on 23 shots for Eden Prairie, which outshot Chaska/Chanhassen 29-23.

With the win, No. 3 seed Eden Prairie advances to face No. 2 seed Holy Family (19-7-0) in the Section 2AA semifinals at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Braemar Arena in Edina. Holy Family defeated Waconia 7-0 in its quarterfinal matchup Friday night.
