December 2024 is the 10th anniversary of the Book Club meeting on the first Monday of each month. This month, we celebrated by revisiting the books we’ve enjoyed over the years, including “All the Light We Cannot See,” “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” “Horse,” and “The Night Watchman.” On Monday, Jan. 6, we’ll talk about our next book, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin.
Adults will explore their past in our Introduction to Genealogy Research class with staff from the Minnesota Genealogical Society offering tips for family research and sharing resources from the Genealogical Society Library and from Hennepin County Library.
January is a perfect time to refresh your jigsaw puzzle collection at our Puzzle Exchange. Bring the puzzles you’ve victoriously assembled and look for new challenges shared by other puzzle enthusiasts.
Look forward to spring by sorting seeds for the Seed Library. The University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener program provides seeds for our Seed Library, which need sorting into take-home packets. Join other volunteers to share stories and meet neighbors while you are sorting seeds.
Join us for a fun-filled musical experience in Petite Concerts and discover instruments! Led by early childhood music specialists from Breaching Concerts LLC, families will listen to and respond to classical music together.
National History Day students are invited to attend the History Day Hullabaloo for help researching their projects. Organized by the Minnesota Historical Society (MHS), students research topics based on an annual theme. The projects are entered in school competitions, then move on to regional, state, and national competitions. MHS is always looking for adults to serve as competition judges. If you love history, this is a great opportunity to connect with young learners exploring compelling topics.
The library now offers tech assistance on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. Our volunteer can help navigate the internet, download forms, and scan, print and fax documents. Tech Assistance is available at libraries throughout the library system.
Carry your library card anywhere with the new Hennepin County Library app. Use the app to sign up for events, place items on hold, and use your barcode at the self-checkout.
Visit the Events page for activities for adults, youth, and teens. We hope to see you at the library this winter!
Editor’s note: This seasonal column provides news and events at the Eden Prairie Library. The writer, Carrie Brunsberg, started as a librarian at the Minneapolis Central Library of the Hennepin County Library system and has been an adult services librarian at the Eden Prairie Library for 12 years.
