    EPLN OBITUARIES

Erik Thomas Savereide, 28, passed away on Nov. 15, 2024, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a medical student at the University of Michigan.

Erik was born Jan. 9, 1996, in Berkeley, California, and brought immeasurable love and joy starting from his birth. He had a heart of gold and cared deeply for everyone, including the marginalized, underserved, unnoticed, and lonely. He was a wonderful brother to his loving sister Laura and made his parents, Paul and Barb, exceedingly proud and excited for each step of his journey.

Erik’s brilliant mind was evident from his preschool through high school years in Eden Prairie, where he was a 2014 graduate of Eden Prairie High School. He did his undergraduate studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, graduating in 2018, and received a master’s degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., before starting his journey at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor.

Erik showed great leadership, becoming an Eagle Scout and being chosen as captain of his Eden Prairie High School cross-country and Nordi ski teams because of his ability to reach out to all team members. He was a musician who played piano and cello before focusing on trumpet and excelling in marching band in high school, college, and with the Cadets of Drum Corps International. He also directed the marching and pep bands at Duke University for football and basketball games.

Erik had a kind smile and intensely dry sense of humor. He connected with people each day and made the world a better place. He was on track to become an amazing oncologist and will be dearly missed forever by his family and friends.

Erik was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Helen Savereide and Lowell and Violet Green. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Barbara Savereide, and his sister Laura.

A service will be held in Eden Prairie on Saturday, Dec. 14. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. and luncheon to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 16515 Luther Way, Eden Prairie. The service will also be livestreamed via immanuel.us.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, University of Michigan School of Medicine, or directly to Barbara Savereide for a community memorial.
