“Eden Prairie Local News: The Story of Us” is one of two locally produced programs premiering this week on Southwest Community Television (SWTV) Comcast Channels 799 and 15.

“The Story of Us” sketches the progress of and the challenges taken on by EPLN in 2024. The video was warmly received during EPLN’s annual public meeting in October. Our online community news center is winning journalism awards and has become the most dependable source of news in town. EPLN continues to add subscribers but still operates mostly on sweat equity.

The new SWTV edition of “Habitat Makers” begins the half-hour. Minnetonka’s Jerrold Gershone hosts the series from western suburban gardens, woodlands, and office parks that have “gone native.” One of the first stories in this beautifully photographed series features the property of Eden Prairie residents Marilynn and Tom Torkelson. View the story here.

The December edition of “Habitat Makers” features two segments. The first visits the naturalized campus of Room & Board headquarters in Golden Valley. The home furnishing retailer hired Urban Ecosystems of St. Paul to design a lush landscape of native plants, wildflowers and pollinators to replace a lot of turf grass.

The second segment features Jim and Mary Hamill, a retired Minnetonka couple. After moving from their longtime home to an apartment next to Meadow Park, they became senior citizen buckthorn busters. With others, they began to restore the native meadows, woodlands and trails next to their apartment complex. The Hamills are members of Friends of Minnetonka Parks.  The Torkelsons of Eden Prairie are founding members of Friends of Eden Prairie Parks.
