Letter: Candidate’s views on schools raise concern

Letter to EditorBy Letter to EditorOctober 28, 20241 Min Read

Kim Johnson: Wow – this candidate has some kaleidoscopic views of schools! Her perspectives, as stated in the Oct. 25 EPLN article about the school board candidates, are fractured bits of opinions that grew into tiny universes all their own.

Furries? Is that what she means by “invasive?” Maybe she thinks zebra mussels are a form of furry invading the schools. Her perspective on “indoctrination” suggests that if a school teaches that zebra mussels exist, then students will become zebra mussels.

The message this candidate is pressing is her wish to control other people’s families, not just her own. Her underlying method seems to use shame and intimidation for people who don’t agree with her views, and she wants public schools to teach her beliefs. “Creationism” is a religious subject, not a science topic. If she wants other people’s children to learn her religious beliefs, she has private options for doing so. Paying for her beliefs with taxes is unconstitutional.

    K. Johnson, Minnetonka
