Woman who stole expensive stroller – with her infant in it – is charged

Jim BayerBy Jim BayerJuly 5, 2024Updated:July 5, 20242 Mins Read

A 35-year-old Waseca woman is charged with stealing a stroller – with a child still in it – from Scheels in Eden Prairie Center.

Betty Jean Cisneros is accused of leaving the store April 8 after making several other purchases with an accomplice, but failing to pay for the stroller.

According to charging documents filed in Hennepin District Court:

Eden Prairie police responded to a theft report at Scheels on April 9 and learned from loss prevention staff that a white Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled into the Scheels parking lot at 6:22 p.m. on April 8. At 6:38 p.m., a woman with long dark hair and a black shirt – later identified as Cisneros – a man wearing a camo hat and black sweatshirt, carrying an infant, and two young boys entered Scheels.

Cisneros selected an Urban Glide stroller with attachments valued at $929.85, and the man placed the infant into the stroller. At about 7 p.m., Cisneros and the man went to the registers on the lower level of Scheels. The man purchased $90 worth of merchandise, and Cisneros purchased a pair of shoes and a sweatshirt. At approximately 7:14 p.m., Cisneros and the man exited Scheels without paying for the stroller, with the infant still inside.

A registration check of the white Jeep Grand Cherokee revealed Cisneros as the registered owner. The driver’s license photograph matched Scheels’ surveillance footage of the female suspect who selected the stroller and pushed it out of Scheels without paying.

A summons has been issued for Cisneros to appear in Hennepin County District Court. Theft of more than $500 and less than $1,000 is a gross misdemeanor. If convicted, Cisneros faces a maximum of 364 days imprisonment and/or a maximum fine of $3,000.
