Foil and duct tape used in theft of more than $3,000 in Scheels merchandise

Jim BayerBy Jim BayerJuly 5, 20242 Mins Read

A 33-year-old Chicago woman is charged with felony theft and possession of burglary or theft tools stemming from an incident last month at Scheels in Eden Prairie Center.

Giovanna Citlali Arce Gallegos was arrested by Eden Prairie police with more than $3,000 in stolen merchandise.

According to charging documents filed in Hennepin District Court:

On June 23, police responded to a report of theft at Scheels. Officers were told three people, including Arce Gallegos, had entered the store, concealed merchandise in a bag, and left without paying.

Officers stopped the people in the store’s parking lot and recovered merchandise valued at $3,164.74.

(Two accomplices are named, but their charging documents are not yet available; therefore, Eden Prairie Local News is not naming them here.)

Officers said they discovered a bag containing merchandise that was lined with aluminum foil and duct tape, apparently to defeat the store’s anti-theft technology. Officers also found a pair of wire cutters, a strong magnet, and a cutting tool in the wheel well of a nearby vehicle, where police say another defendant had concealed those items.

All three people were arrested. Arce Gallegos was held in lieu of $3,000 bail and released June 25. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Another person was released June 26.
