    EPLN OBITUARIES

Orland (Orly) Harvey Maenke, age 83, of Eden Prairie, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

Orly was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and friend to many. He was born to Reinhard and Hilda (Matthews) Maenke on May 18, 1940, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. On June 23, 1968, he married Lorraine Overhaug at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, Minnesota.

Orly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and served until 1969, with one year of active duty in Vietnam. He was employed as the assistant superintendent at Edina Country Club until he became the first superintendent at Olympic Hills Golf Club in 1969. Orly worked closely with the architects and was influential in the development of Olympic Hills. After 37 years, he retired from Olympic Hills in 2006. He was also a 40-year member of the MGCSA (Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association).

Although he enjoyed playing golf, his true enjoyment was bowling, where he bowled in the same Thursday night league for over 60 years at the Hopkins bowling alley. Orly was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie for almost 50 years.

Orly will be remembered for his bright smile, boastful laughter, hard work ethic, dedication, and loyalty to his family and friends. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and rarely missed an event in which they were involved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lorraine; son, Brian (Katie) Maenke; daughter, Sarah (Jim) Binkley; grandchildren, Maddy (Daniel) Krentz, Collin (Ashley) Maenke, Jake Kinch; step-grandchildren, Paige and Wyatt Binkley; and great-grandson, Chet Maenke. He is also survived by his brothers, Hilmar, Gordon (Pat), Lorin (Karen), and John (Joann); sisters, Deloris (Bruce) Luxford, Carol (Bill) Brinkman, Sharon Schaffhausen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhard and Hilda (Matthews) Maenke; brothers, Willard, Dennis, and Harold; sisters, Verna Johnson, Marilyn Martin, and Eileen Baker.

Orly’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 16515 Luther Way, Eden Prairie, MN 55346. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m., with the service at 2 p.m., followed by a luncheon. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

Services are being handled by Huber Funerals & Cremation Services, Eden Prairie.
