City sets prescribed burns through May

EPLN Staff ReportsBy EPLN Staff ReportsMarch 22, 20241 Min Read

The City of Eden Prairie’s parks and natural resources staff, in collaboration with the Fire Department, will be conducting prescribed prairie burns through May to enhance and preserve the native prairie landscape.

These controlled burns, key to managing invasive plant species, are scheduled at the following locations across the city: the Community Center, Creekwood Park, Hidden Ponds Park, Homeward Hills Park, the Maintenance Facility at 15150 Technology Drive, Prairie East Park, Round Lake Park, Top View Park, and the Water Storage Facility at 8251 Eden Prairie Road.

Each burn is expected to last between one and three hours, depending on weather conditions. City staff will closely monitor the weather and coordinate with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildfire Program to ensure burns are conducted under ideal conditions.

Although the burns will temporarily char the ground, this process is vital for encouraging the regrowth of a diverse array of plant species in the spring.

Residents with questions or concerns can contact the city’s Parks and Natural Resources Division for more information. Additional details about the prescribed burns are available on the city’s website.
