An Eden Prairie man faces charges after a Jan. 31 disturbance at a residence on Purdey Road, which led police to temporarily close a portion of nearby Riverview Road.

    Mykola Jeffrey Stephen Glowa

Mykola Jeffrey Stephen Glowa, 36, has been charged with two counts, a Feb. 2 criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court shows.

Glowa faces charges of making a felony threat of violence, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, as well as a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

At about 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, Eden Prairie police responded to reports of threats at a house in the 10900 block of Purdey Road. The caller, Glowa’s mother, reported her son was in a violent rage, had threatened to kill her, and had multiple firearms in the house.

A SWAT crisis negotiator was dispatched to the scene. Following police advice, Glowa’s parents left the house for their safety.

Glowa’s mother, referred to as the victim in the complaint, informed the negotiator that Glowa had returned to her home in October after being kicked out of his former residence for fighting.

She also stated that Glowa struggles with mental health issues, stays home all day, is obsessed with the Ukraine war, and has expressed suicidal ideations about joining the conflict. She added that Glowa carried a handgun on his belt and had other firearms in the home, including rifles.

According to the complaint, his mother told police that Glowa became agitated and began disposing of her belongings without her consent.

When confronted, Glowa reportedly went into a rage and attempted to grab her, though she managed to walk away before any physical contact occurred. She also reported that Glowa threatened to kill her, leading her to fear for her safety, especially given his access to firearms. She called her husband to come home, and Glowa became agitated with him as well.

A SWAT team attempted to engage Glowa in dialogue, and State Patrol aircraft searched for him in a nearby wooded area, but they were unable to locate him. Authorities closed Riverview Road between Parker Drive and Landing Road as part of the police operation.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the residence at about 5:45 p.m. but did not find Glowa, according to police reports. The complaint indicates police were concerned he had left on foot with a firearm. In response to Glowa’s threats and his mother’s request, officers seized three rifle cases and loaded magazines from his bedroom.

Later, a family member told officers that Glowa had returned home and was agitated. Police and SWAT then returned, apprehended Glowa, and took him to Hennepin County Jail.

Glowa was released from custody on Feb. 2 after posting $30,000 bail. He faces strict conditions, including no contact with the victim and staying a reasonable distance from the victim’s residence.

He is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on Feb. 29, where issues such as evidence admissibility and case readiness will be reviewed.
