Early voting now available for March 5 presidential primary

EPLN Staff ReportsBy EPLN Staff ReportsJanuary 19, 20242 Mins Read

Early voting for Minnesota’s presidential nomination primary election on March 5 is now underway, offering Eden Prairie residents the opportunity to cast their votes ahead of the official polling date.

This presidential nomination primary allows Minnesotans to select their preferred presidential nominees from each major political party.

In the primary, voters will receive one of three ballots — Republican, Democratic-Farmer-Labor or Legal Marijuana Now — according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office. They can vote in only one party’s primary.

From Friday, Jan. 19, through Monday, March 4, eligible Eden Prairie residents can vote early, either in person or by mail.

In-person voting takes place at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Additionally, the City Center will open for voting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2.

For those who prefer to vote early by mail, the process involves submitting a Minnesota Absentee Ballot Request.

While voters are not required to be preregistered to apply for an absentee ballot, it’s recommended they register first to simplify the process. Those who need help with their registration status can check it on the Secretary of State’s website.

Once the absentee ballot application is received, ballots are typically mailed to voters within one to two days. To be counted, completed mail-in ballots must be received on or before the March 5 presidential nomination primary.

The city’s website provides additional election-related information.

Voters can call the Secretary of State’s office at 1-877-600-8683 for voting-related questions. The call center operates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours on Election Day.
